This section contains basic information about grammar and the basic parts of speech. It can be used as a reference when checking a paper, or when unsure how to use a particular word.
- Noun - A word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Ex: The secretary put her computer on her desk.
- Adjective - Adjectives are modifyers. They describe nouns and specify size, color, number, etc.
Ex: The small "x" in the upper corner of the window is used to exit your file.

Adverb - Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs.
Ex: The secretary screamed loudly as her monitor flickered slowly, and died.
- Verb - A word that shows action or being.
Ex: Jeff waved goodbye to the computer repairman.
- Pronoun - A word that takes the place of a noun.
Ex: Suddenly, her mind went blank, so she contacted her boss.
- Preposition - Shows how nouns or pronouns relate to other words in the sentence.
Ex: Suzie rolled the basket into the bathroom; her mother hid behind the shower curtain.
- Article - "A", "an", & "the" are articles. They are often signals that a noun is coming next in the sentence.
